Enjoy the Fort Greene vibe
Het is zomer! Fort Green Park, in Brooklyn, is dit seizoen mijn favoriete hidden gem. Deze verborgen parel wordt omringd door charmante brownstones, winkeltjes en sfeervolle restaurants. Dit alles in een prachtige, groene wijk met alleen Brooklynistas!
Strijk in het park neer met een boek, geniet met vrienden van een heerlijke picknick, sla een balletje op de tennisbaan of smelt weg bij de meest schattige honden. Ook leuk: op zaterdag heerlijk slenteren over de lokale farmer´s market. Alle lekkernijen zijn al de moeite waard, maar absolute bonus is het live jazz entertainment aan het begin van het park!
Summer is here! Fort Green Park, in Brooklyn, is my favorite hidden gem in summer. This local secret is surrounded by stunning Brooklyn brownstones, shops and little restaurants. All located in a nice, green neighbourhood, with Brooklynistas only! Bring a book and a blanket, sit down for a picnic with friends, play tennis at the tennis court or simply watch cute dogs being taken for a walk.
On Saturdays, you can also stroll around the local farmers market next to the park, and if you’re lucky you‘ll even get to listen to a Jazz band play at the entrance of the park!

Little Island – unique, urban oasis
Ben je in de concrete jungle op zoek naar een groene oase van rust? Zodra je over de tulpvormige pilaren van Little Island loopt, voelt het alsof je Manhattan verlaat en in een totaal andere wereld bent beland.
In dit bijzondere stadspark is altijd iets te beleven. In het amfitheater geniet je van live optredens én het waanzinnige uitzicht. Perfect voor zonnige zomeravonden! Mijn vrienden en ik komen hier graag om te picknicken én voor people-watching. Little Island is een hele fijne plek om even te ontsnappen van The City’s cityness.
If you’re looking for some green space in the heart of the concrete jungle, Little Island Park is your place. Walk through the tulip structures into a new world, nothing like the city you’ve left behind.
There is an outdoor amphitheatre overlooking the water, where they hold activities and events. Perfect for summer evenings! Me and my friends love to picknick here. Also when people-watching is your sport, this special park is worth adding to your must-see list. It’s a welcome respite from the city, and I love to visit every time I go!

Explore Bushwick, where walls become canvases
Gaat jouw hart sneller kloppen van indrukwekkende street art? Dan is Bushwick Collective waar je wilt zijn! Heel Bushwick lijkt een grote openlucht galerie, maar mijn meest favoriete kunstwerken zijn te vinden in Jefferson Street, Troutman Street en Starr Street.
Koel af met een ijskoffie in Wyckoff Starr, het Twin Peaks-themed koffietentje op Wyckoff Avenue. Struin vervolgens rond en geniet van de unieke combinatie van kleurrijke murals, energieke bewoners en de vibe van één van de meest levendige buurten in Brooklyn. Ook niet te missen: het Koreaanse restaurant Nowon. De ricotta toast, smash burger en cheese rice cakes zijn, terecht, een begrip!
Are you into beautifully executed street art and murals? The Bushwick Collective features murals all over Bushwick, but many of my personal favourites can be found off the Jefferson stop, on Jefferson, Troutman and Starr Street, between Irving and St Nicholas Avenues.
Grab a refreshing iced coffee at the Twin Peaks-themed coffee shop on Wykoff, called Wykoff Starr, then wander the area taking in the art, the eclectic residents and the sights and sounds of one of the liveliest areas of Brooklyn. And run, don’t walk, to Nowon! This is a delectable Korean-fusion restaurant with one of the best deals on a pre fixe/tasting menu in NYC. Don’t miss the ricotta toast, smash burger and the chopped cheese rice cakes!
