Spend a day discovering Greenpoint

Kent Street, in Greenpoint, barst van de fantastische winkels, restaurants en bars. Een paar van mijn favoriete plekken:

• Homecoming: In dit lokale koffiezaakje meng je je onder de New Yorkers. Ook shop je hier planten, keramiek en lokale items als zeep en parfum. Een must-visit!
• Karczma: Dit traditionele, Poolse restaurant is dé plek voor de allerbeste pierogi! Vergeet ook niet de borscht, die in een broodkom geserveerd wordt
• WNYC Transmitter Park: Dit park, aan de East River, heeft de beste uitzichten op Manhattan. Perfect voor een ontspannen wandeling, na het eten van alle Poolse lekkernijen!

Kent Street, in Greenpoint, is an amazing area to spend a day. There are plenty of great shops, restaurants and cafes to explore. Here are a few of my favorites:

• Homecoming: This little neighborhood coffee shop has delicious drinks and a nice selection of plants, ceramics and  locally made items, like soaps and perfumes. A must-visit!
• Karczma: This traditional Polish restaurant is a great place to get the most delicious pierogi! But my ultimate favorite on the menu is white borscht soup, served in a bread bowl
• WNYC Transmitter Park: This waterfront park, at the East River, has stunning Manhattan views. It’s always quiet and not too busy. Perfect for a walk after all those Polish treats!

De winter is dé periode om musea te bezoeken. Het iconische Fotografiska is een fantastisch fotomuseum, waar elke paar maanden een nieuwe tentoonstelling te bewonderen is. Zo is hier altijd iets nieuws te ontdekken in de uiteenlopende tentoonstellingen, van huisdieren tot hip hop en natuur.

Je vindt het prachtige museum aan het levendige Park Avenue. Dit was vroeger het Church Mission House en heeft daarom een klassiek karakter, wat mooi blendt in de concrete jungle. Leuk feitje: dit is het gebouw wat Anna Delvey (Inventing Anna) wilde kopen. Ik snap wel waarom!

The winter season is the best time to visit a museum in New York. The iconic Fotografiska is an amazing photography museum, with rotating exhibitions. Expect all types of photographic genres, ranging from pets to hip hop and nature.

The museum, formerly known as the Church Missions House, is located on bustling Park Avenue. This gives the landmarked building a classical appearance, in the middle of New York’s concrete jungle. Fun fact: this is the building Anna Delvey (Inventing Anna) wanted to buy. Got it – that makes sense!

Mijn favoriete activiteit tijdens de winter in New York? De vibe van Brooklyn, plus het gezelschap van vrienden, is dé combinatie voor een winterse dag. Imagine: schaatsen onder de Brooklyn Bridge, omgeven door ontelbare lichtjes, terwijl je geniet van de Manhattan skyline.

Gevolgd door een ontspannen en sfeervolle wandeling door Downtown Brooklyn. Ook hier geniet je van prachtig versierde straten. Het is dé perfecte mix van charme en gezellig samenzijn en staat garant voor de meest hartverwarmende herinneringen!

The best thing to do in the winter in New York? Brooklyn’s vibe, and the company of friends, make a perfect combination for a winter day. Picture this: ice skating under the Brooklyn Bridge, surrounded by countless Christmas lights and festive decorations, while taking in the iconic views of the Manhattan skyline.

Enjoy hidden food spots 

East Village barst van de hidden gems. Run, don’t walk, naar V-Nam Cafe! Dit is een niet-te-missen Vietnamees eettentje. De smaakvolle pho’s worden geserveerd in een grote bowl, met groenten en verschillende toppings zodat je de pho naar eigen smaak kunt afmaken. Het voelt hier alsof je mee-eet in een gezellige huiskamer.

Heb je na het eten lekkere trek? Wandel dan naar Economic Candy, in de Lower East Side, voor een unieke ervaring van een nostalgische snoepwinkel.

The East Village has many hidden gem restaurants. As a foodie, it’s so great when you stumble upon a place and get that great meal you were craving. So run, don’t walk, to V-Nam Cafe! The delicious pho is piping hot served in a large bowl with a generous amount of bean sprouts and basil on the side, plus sauces you could add. The atmosphere in this small eatery is cozy and I felt like I was eating in someone’s kitchen.

Riding high above the city

Een ritje met de kabeltram is een unieke activiteit die niet mag missen op je New York to do list. De oversteek van Manhattan naar Roosevelt Island staat garant voor 4 minuten genieten van waanzinnige uitzichten, over de East River en beide eilanden. Picture perfect. Dus zorg ervoor dat je een plek bij een raam weet te bemachtigen!

Zonsondergang is het perfecte moment van de dag voor je kabeltram-avontuur. In de winter kleurt de lucht nóg veel mooier dan in de zomer!

I highly recommend adding New York’s cable car to your to do list! The four-minute journey from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island offers up sweeping views of the East River and both islands. Picture perfect. Make sure you get a spot by a window!

The perfect timing is to take the cable car during sunset. Because, yes.. winter sunsets are really more vibrant and colorful compared to summer sunsets!
